Simultaneously, we tested the melanin content of melanocytes. To get further insight into the important role of OA1 in the melanocytes’ pigmentation, we transfected the OA1 into mouse melanocytes and then detected the relative expression levels of pigmentation-related gene. Immunofluorescence assays revealed that OA1 was mainly expressed in the hair follicle matrix, the inner and outer root sheath in the skin tissues with different coat colors. The relative expression levels of OA1 protein in both black and brown skin were significantly higher than that in gray skin, but there was no significant difference between black and brown mice. Positive OA1 protein bands were also detected in all skin samples by Western blot analysis. The qRT-PCR analysis revealed that OA1 mRNA was expressed in all mice skin samples tested, with the highest expression level in brown skin, a moderate expression level in black skin and the lowest expression level in gray skin. “Heat protection is also super important,” says Mack, “especially for people who are heat-styling twice a week or more.” So look for products that offer clear heat protection on the packaging, as well as formulas that boast damage-repairing ingredients, like proteins. To investigate whether ocular albinism type 1 ( OA1) is differentially expressed in the skin of mice with different coat colors and to determine its correlation with coat color establishment in mouse, the expression patterns and tissue distribution characterization of OA1 in the skin of mice with different coat colors were qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed by real-time quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR), immunofluorescence staining and Western blot. If you want that glossy, straight hair, you want to look for products that say “anti-frizz,” "straightening," or “smoothing" on the label. And if you have dry hair? "Keratin, rich oils, and ingredients with hydrating properties are important," says Rubenstein. Low-porosity hair (which needs help absorbing moisture), on the other hand, should opt for lightweight oils like jojoba or argan oil to avoid weighing down strands or leading to buildup.Īnd if you live in fear of anything oil-based touching your already-oily hair, Rubenstein says to "avoid products with heavy oil ingredients like coconut, almond, or avocado oils, to name a few." But she says that as long as the product is far enough from your scalp (which is what's really causing the oiliness) in just the length of your hair, you should be able to use most of these straightening creams. For high-porosity hair (which absorbs moisture but can also lose it easily), Mack says to look for serums, leave-ins, and creams that contain heavier moisturizers like coconut oil and shea butter. Hairstylist Tiffany Mack says to pick your products based on your hair porosity (which is your hair’s ability to absorb and retain moisture). Our top hair-straightening product picks of 2022 Let’s get into it, but first, here's a sneak peek. And that includes the 17 best hair-straightening products, like creams, serums, and sprays that'll smooth flyaways and make achieving Ariana Grande and Kim K-level hair much, much easier.
